Our commitment

Sustainability
at RiverStone
International

RiverStone International recognises its responsibility to drive sustainable outcomes for our employees, communities, investors, and the planet.

We are committed to evolving our business responsibly through the careful identification, measurement, monitoring and reporting of the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics that are most material to our long‑term success.

As a legacy insurer, we do not underwrite new policies; ESG risks are therefore incorporated at the point of original underwriting and assessed as part of our acquisition process. Our sustainability focus is centred on the areas where we have direct influence and accountability — our operations, people, communities, and responsible investment approach – underpinned by strong governance, risk management, and integration of ESG considerations into business decisions.

In 2025, we formalised our sustainability strategy, building on our established ESG governance framework and a double materiality assessment that identified the sustainability issues most relevant to our business. These issues are grouped into four core themes, which guide our priorities and actions across the Group.

Our people are at the heart of RiverStone’s success. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful and supportive workplace where colleagues can thrive, develop and feel valued. We also support the communities in which we operate through volunteering, charitable partnerships and employee led initiatives.

Our People

Our people and their wellbeing are fundamental to RiverStone’s success. We are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and supportive culture where colleagues feel valued, connected and empowered to do their best work. We believe that different perspectives, backgrounds and experiences strengthen our business and help us make better decisions.

We bring people together through global and local events, encourage open dialogue through our employee networks, and recognise achievements across the organisation. These networks play an important role in amplifying colleague voice and championing diversity, wellbeing and environmental action across the business.

We support colleague wellbeing through comprehensive health and wellness benefits, employee assistance programmes, and mental health resources, alongside initiatives that promote resilience, balance and inclusion at every stage of working life.

We’re proud that in our 2025 Employee Engagement Survey, RiverStone was recognised as a Great Place to Work™ in all eligible locations across the UK, US, Bermuda and Ireland. Learn more about Careers at Riverstone International.

Health and Wellbeing

We want our people to feel genuinely looked after, which is why RiverStone International offers a strong package of health and wellbeing benefits, including:

  • medical cover
  • family leave
  • carers leave
  • confidential Employee Assistance Programmes with counselling
  • financial advice
  • mental health support
  • access to Headspace for mindfulness and resilience.

We also promote wellbeing through Mental Health First Aid–led awareness events and practical benefits such as our electric car scheme for UK colleagues, delivered in partnership with Tusker.

Giving Back to Our Communities

We believe long-term business success is strengthened by making a positive social impact. Our community engagement is shaped by employee involvement and local priorities, with opportunities for colleagues to volunteer, support charitable causes and take part in initiatives that deliver meaningful, lasting impact.

RiverStone International partners with charitable organisations and supports charitable giving in ways that build pride and connection across our communities. This includes a triple-match scheme for employee donations to UK-registered charities, support for national charity initiatives and colleague-led fundraising events, donations to local schools nominated by our people, and an annual corporate charity donation chosen by employees across our office locations.

Each colleague is encouraged to take up to two paid volunteering days each year to support local charities, communities and the environment. Our people get involved in a wide range of activities throughout the year, from environmental initiatives and seasonal giving campaigns to food and school‑supply collections and hands‑on support such as preparing meals, sorting donations and supporting youth programmes. Together, these activities reflect our commitment to making a positive difference in the places where we live and work, while helping colleagues feel connected to a shared purpose beyond their day‑to‑day roles.

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting responsible practices across our operations, supply chain and investments. Climate action is a central pillar of our sustainability strategy, supported by science-based targets that guide our emissions reduction pathway.

Taking care of our environment is a core principle that guides our actions as a business.

We focus on reducing emissions, protecting natural resources and embedding responsible practices across our operations and supply chain. Our environmental initiatives are supported by education, awareness and employee engagement, recognising that collective action drives meaningful change.

Our Climate Commitments and Science Based Targets

Climate action is a central pillar of RiverStone International’s sustainability strategy. In 2025, our greenhouse gas reduction targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), confirming alignment with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

These science-based targets cover both our operational emissions and emissions associated with our investments, reinforcing our commitment to decarbonisation across the areas where we have the greatest influence. Alongside emissions reduction, we continue to strengthen data quality, improve transparency and embed climate considerations into decision making across the organisation.

By setting science based targets, we hold ourselves accountable to an externally recognised standard and ensure our climate strategy remains credible, structured and focused on long term impact. Further detail on our targets and progress is available in our Annual Report.

Our approach to climate risk

At RiverStone International, we recognise that proactively managing climate‑related risks and opportunities is essential to building a resilient business and responsibly managing long‑term liabilities. As a legacy insurer, we do not underwrite new policies, and our approach reflects the specific risk profile of our business, focusing on climate‑related impacts across our operations, supply chain and investment portfolio.

We assess and manage physical risks, including acute and chronic climate impacts that may affect our facilities, operational resilience and suppliers, as well as transition risks arising from policy, regulatory, market and technological changes associated with the transition to a lower‑carbon economy. These considerations are embedded within our existing governance, risk management and investment processes to ensure climate risks are monitored across relevant time horizons.

Further detail on how we identify, assess and manage climate‑related risks and opportunities is provided in the Task Force on Climate‑related Financial Disclosures section of our Annual Report.

Our Initiatives

We support environmental sustainability through practical initiatives that reduce our impact and encourage positive behaviour change. This includes an electric car scheme for UK colleagues, a commitment to using small and local suppliers where possible, and ensuring our events and corporate gifts are sourced sustainably and remain as plastic free as possible.

Our Environmental Employee Resource Group plays a key role in engaging colleagues through quarterly campaigns on topics including sustainable food choices, waste reduction, energy efficiency, conscious consumption and biodiversity alongside activities such as book swaps and litter picks—showing that even small actions can make a meaningful collective difference.

Carbon credits

Emission reduction remains a core principle for the Group, and we continue to prioritise actions that deliver measurable progress toward decarbonisation. While carbon credits are not a substitute for directly reducing our emissions, we recognise that when used responsibly they can play a complementary role in mitigating climate change.

We focus on investing in high-quality projects that go beyond carbon reduction to deliver meaningful social and environmental benefits. These projects cover emissions remaining for Scopes 1 and 2 as well as Scope 3 emissions attributed to business travel. Each initiative is carefully selected to align with our chosen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that our climate strategy supports broader global objectives.

Our Carbon Credit Initiatives for 2025:

Rooftop Solar Energy, East Africa

Expands access to clean, affordable energy for off-grid households in rural Kenya and Uganda by replacing kerosene lamps with Pay-As-You-Go solar home systems.

Community Energy Solutions, India

Improves holistic clean energy transition by replacing kerosene lighting and wood biomass used for cooking and water purification with clean technologies including improved cookstoves, solar lighting, and water purifiers.

Sabah Rainforest Rehabilitation, Malaysia

Nature-based removals initiative restoring and conserving previously logged tropical rainforest in Malaysia, with long-term climate and biodiversity value.

Integrating ESG considerations into investment decision making is an essential part of prudent financial management. Through clear policies, close engagement with external asset managers and alignment with recognised global frameworks, we seek to ensure our investment portfolio remains resilient, well governed and aligned with long term objectives.

At RiverStone International, responsible investment is a central pillar of our sustainability strategy and one of the most powerful ways we can influence long term outcomes. Our investment portfolio plays a critical role in supporting liabilities, preserving capital and managing risk, making ESG integration essential to long term value creation.

ESG considerations are embedded alongside traditional financial analysis, ensuring our investments remain resilient, well governed and aligned with evolving regulatory and stakeholder expectations.

We have a clear Responsible Investment Policy that outlines our commitment to responsible investment. The Group Investment Committee has oversight of the policy which supports and enables our responsible investment approach.

RiverStone has carefully selected Asset Managers who are instructed to actively integrate ESG factors into their security selection according to our responsible investment policy. This includes managing climate related risks and applying exclusionary screening to high risk or controversial activities. We also commit to consider impact investing and to the advocacy of responsible investment within the insurance industry.

Our commitment to responsible investment is underpinned by recognised global frameworks. All asset managers for in-scope assets are expected to be signatories to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment to ensure our approach is consistent with a globally recognised framework. We are also a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment since 2024 and in 2025 received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for our near-term greenhouse gas reduction targets, set for achievement by 2029. These milestones strengthen RiverStone’s climate commitments and governance structure.

Strong governance underpins everything we do. Robust policies, clear oversight structures and mandatory training support ethical conduct, transparency and accountability across all jurisdictions.

Governance and Accountability

Good governance remains central to our sustainability approach. High standards of behaviour are supported by our Code of Conduct and Supplier Code of Conduct, alongside robust policies, controls and training covering data protection, anti-bribery and corruption, and financial crime.

Clear oversight and accountability structures ensure sustainability risks and opportunities are appropriately managed and embedded into decision making across the Group.

Our Frameworks and Standards

We align our sustainability approach with recognised global frameworks and standards to ensure transparency, credibility and consistency.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Our sustainability agenda is structured around three priority UN Sustainable Development Goals:

These goals guide our internal initiatives, charitable partnerships and environmental programmes, helping us focus our efforts where we can deliver the greatest impact.

We are a participant in the UN Global Compact and are committed to transparent reporting on our progress against its ten principles on human rights, labour, the environment and anti‑corruption.

Taskforce on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)

We align our climate related risk management and reporting with the TCFD framework, supporting clear, consistent disclosures and robust assessment of climate related risks and opportunities.

Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)

We are a signatory to the UN supported Principles for Responsible Investment, reflecting our commitment to responsible investment practices, transparency and continuous improvement.
